Just seen the latest X Men film with [info]anthraxia, and it was okay, but left me wanting more. I wont go into details, but they should have waited fo Bryan Singer to direct it. Apart from that I have now entered the wine tasting part of my holiday, as I did Magill Penfold's yesterday (for free, score), tomorrow it's McLaren Vale and Adelaide Hills, then on Saturday off to the Clare Valley. Pointless observation of the day, Australians think temperatures of 12 degrees are cold, I keep seeing people wearing scarves (cold weather, not fashion)

10:11 pm - Penguintastic
Welcome to the wonders of eight and a half hours ahead land, where buildings are strange if they have more than one story. It's just like being in Cardiff (raining), but a lot flatter and more spread out. I may do regular updates, but in all likelihood I'll do about one or two more while I'm here. So if you want to know what's happening, read [info]anthraxia's updates.

10:18 pm - Singapore calling
I felt it was about time for another missive, plus there's nothing else to do during my exciting six hour stay in Changi airport.

First flight dull and uneventful, possibly cos I slept through half of it. Next flight boarding soon. Free internet keyboard in airport a bit shitty, it's almost impossible to get an x on it, so I've resorted to whackig the keyboard to get any response...

Anyway, the next one of these should hopefully come from Adelaide

4:50 pm - Have computer, will use it

Time for another dose of inane drivel (that looks wrong, but there you go). 'Tis the season to get toys, and toys I got. A fine plethora of DVD's and PS2 games, plus stuff, Christmas is a wonderful toy time.

Anyway, just thought as I have access to the interwebnet, I'd update the rarely updated. Anyone who knows me knows what's happening, and anyone who doesn't, why are you reading this?

5:19 pm - I still do stuff
Just thought I'd write this as I haven't written anything in ages. Strangely enough, nothing has really happened since I last said anything, apart from the fact my parents seem to have an allergic reaction to the UK at the moment. They've just come back from France and they're off to Australia this weekend. Then again, they said they'd pay for me to go to Australia next year so I can't complain.

3:29 pm - New balls please...

I've just been watching tennis (ie. still avoiding packing) and was wondering if the female tennis grunt should be used in other jobs? I mean, can you imagine call centre workers grunting after each sentence? Or mayhaps the grunting shopkeeper?

It could make other sports more entertaining to watch. Chess would have a much greater humour appeal, but it would of course have to be banned in the World Staring Championships....

2:19 pm - Stuff happens

Welcome to the 'I must update my journal because I haven't done so in a while, not because I'm bored with packing' post.

First up, may we have a moments silence for the passing of a televisual genius and master of bad puns, Richard Whiteley. Countdown won't be the same without him.

Secondly, not a lot really. We had fun in the shop on Friday, as some kind and generous souls decided to break into the arcade on Thursday night/Friday morning. They didn't take much, but it did mean I had an exciting morning of sitting outside the shop waiting for the police to get round to looking at our shop.

Must get back to packing, but I really can't be bothered....

11:53 pm - Batman Rocks!

Batman Begins is great*, even [info]styfen  says so, except he has no interweb access, so he can't.

On a different tack, check out this site:

http://www.chick.com/reading/tracts/0046/0046_01.asp

It would probably be a lot less funny if they weren't serious.

*If you ignore certain bits of comic continuity, but not everyone is as much of a Batphile/geek as I am.

11:49 pm

Welcome once again dear reader, to the inane stoaty ramblings that eminate from my inner sanctum, or if you prefer, my fingers.

The first order of business (strange word business, pronounced bizness, but looks like it should be pronounced bus e ness) is to start the poll without a poll:

What is your favourie Arnold Schwarzenegger film?

For me it is Commando. A piece of cinematic genius, showing off Arnie's amazing puntastic stylings, far too many guns and things that go bang to be necessary, all ably assisted by Vernon Wells with his amazing 'tache and chainmial vest combo. Plus it has the obligatory appearance by Bill Paxton as miscellaneous radar operator, and a firm favourite of [info]oneshallstand 's, the mighty Bill Duke.

The next thing is to share my recent observations in the local multiplex. First up is the trailer to Dark Water, which looks alright, but is it just me, or does Koji Suzuki (the bloke who wrote the novel on which the film was based, who also did The Ring) have a bit of an obsession with small children and lots of water? Another question that emerges from the trailer is: If you find out the apartment above yours has been deserted for years and then suddenly starts flooding your flat, do you:

  1. Go upstairs to explore the abandoned and flooded apartment?
  2. Phone your landlord and/or a plumber and let them sort it out?

I'd go for 2 myself, but I suppose that would make for a less interesting film. Finally on this film, if I was Dougray Scott I'd be really pissed off (plus a lot richer, but I'd take the rough with the smooth). Imagine the credits, Academy Award Winner Jennifer Connelly, Academy Award Nominated Tim Roth, Academy Award Nominated Pete Postlethwaite, critically acclaimed director Walter Salles, Dougray Scott, Academy Award Nominated John C Reilly... you get the picture.

Next up, The Descent, or as I prefer, When Spelunking (great word) Goes Bad - A Neverending Journey into TERROR!!! It's a UK horror film from the people who brought you Dog Soldiers, so it could be alright.

Finally, Stealth, which looks like a combination of Top Gun and 2001:A Space Odyssey. It's from the director of such classics as xXx and The Fast and the Furious, and stars blind cabbie, Ray Charles (Jamie Foxx), that bird out of Blade 3 (Jessica Biel) and the mighty Josh Lucas, who was aparently in The Hulk, A Beautiful Mind, Wonderland and most impressively of all - Wing Commander III : Heart of the Tiger (I actually looked up what he was in, because I didn't recognize his name). If that cast and crew doesn't make you want to watch the film, nothing will.

Anyway, enough of these ramblings, but don't forget to cast your vote in the race for Arnie's Greatest Film...

10:55 pm - Thoughts for the day

It's quite possible you may have seen some of these before, but stay with me, something new and original may appear:

  1. What colour does a smurf go when it chokes? An old one I know, but no-one has answered it to my satisfaction.
  2. If cartoon physics/geography is correct and you tunnelled through to Australia or China, what would happen if you threw a ball down the hole?
  3. Is Roadrunner the most foul mouthed cartoon character ever?
  4. What is a Kinder Bueno called in Spain?
  5. Is Darth Sidious the worst teacher ever? He has a different sith student in each film.

If you have the answers to these questions you probably have far too much time on your hands.

  1. How do you have time on your hands?

10:26 pm - Bizarre mood settings

Due to the observation by [info]jaxvor , I was looking at the different moods available to see which others I'll probably end up using. The obvious ones; apathetic, bored, indifferent, lazy and lethargic are all there, but then I saw indescribable. This made me wonder if that is indescribable in the normal sense of cannot be described, or the HP Lovecraft version of 'it was indescribable, it was seven foot tall, made of a black viscous liquid and covered in pseudopods' (great word). The other one was exanimate. Does this mean your mood is that of a dead person, ie someone who is no longer animated, or am I totally misunderstanding this mood?

The other question of course is does anyone really care? My guess is no, but it gave me something to write about before I go and watch Monty Python and the Holy Grail, which I have a strange urge to watch, possibly due to playing Shadows Over Camelot, possibly because there's nothing on TV.

The journal of nothing happening has now started. I'd say something interesting, but at the moment I'm deciding between apathetic, indifferent and lazy for mood
